The Look Of..., like it's titular counterpart Paris: The City Of... contains an incomplete name because of the ambiguous nature of what could possibly fit in the "blank." Unlike Paris, however, this piece is very short, shot on 16mm, takes place in the United States, and is a comedy (of sorts).

The Look Of... was shot over the course of a handful of hours at Wild Horse Mobil in Chesterfield, Missouri on a Sunday afternoon in March 2002.

After we finished shooting The Look Of..., Jaffa and I went to see the movie Iris at the Plaza Frontenac. Some hilarity ensued, as the management there is apparently completely incompetent (in particular, Juanita Rose, whom I believe to be the mother of one of my childhood friends--how's that for a mind-blower?--and Ron, whose last name I don't know)!

The Look Of... will likely end up as part of a trilogy (possibly quadrilogy) of Pancake Productions shorts that will also include Check-mateless and Lombard Street (and also possibly Drawer's Block), based on the fact that they all feature Alex and they all have similar themes (excepting, possibly, Drawer's Block, hence it's possible exclusion--I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one).
